Larsen & Toubro’s ECC (L&T) Division awarded a contract to ERachana to conduct GIS-based Door-to-Door Survey for entire Tumakuru City, comprising of 62,500 properties. This was part of the prestigious “Continuous Pressurized Water Supply Scheme for Tumkur City under UIDSSMT” project, awarded by Karnataka Water Supply and Drainage Board, with the Tumakuru City Corporation being the end user.
The scope of this project was to gather information pertaining to the property and water connections in 35 wards of Tumakuru City which was divided into 37 DMAs (District Metering Areas).
A team of about 18 enumerators worked over a period of 4 months to complete door-to-door survey and collect the data as per the format designed and approved by the end user. Basemap for the project area was developed using Satellite Imagery, which included, digitized streets/roads, tanks/water bodied, building footprints, important landmarks, etc.
The existing base map was updated as per the current field conditions and data captured during the door-to-door survey was linked with the respective property, along with its photograph. The deliverables of the project included updated base map in GIS-Compatible format and a report for each property comprising of the field captured data and a photograph.
L&T used this data as primary information to know the demand for water in each DMA, then using hydraulic modelling to design/restructure the existing water network system, to ensure quality service to all consumers in Tumakuru City, by providing them continuous water supply.
